Fiber Optics - General Principles

Fiber optics is a new way of lighting becoming increasingly popular because of the many applications it can have, which are only limited by imagination.

To begin with, one major feature that distinguishes fiber optic from conventional lighting is the fact that light source is separated from the light. That offers some unique advantages:

  1. The light source can be positioned virtually anywhere.
  2. The light source is easily accessible, making it ideal for maintenance.
  3. The light source generates pure light. As a result of this, there is no radiation, no heat, no electricity, no noise, making highly safe for a number of applications.
  4. Low power consumption

The many ways of application

Fiber optics lighting has brought about a revolution in the field of lighting, and especially in areas just recently occupied by conventional lighting. In some cases it even solved some problems. Applications include (but are not limited) to the following:

? Showcases and shop windows
? Hard to reach and/or elevated areas. In this case maintenance becomes very difficult, expensive, impractical or even impossible
? Special cases where some special effects are needed
? Projects where the mere presence of UV and/or IR radiation is harmful (e.g. in a museum or in a cave)
? Installations underwater, in which case fiber optic lighting is perfect, since it does not conveys any electricity at all.
? Highlighting information signs, frames of pictures or paintings
? If there is a need for the light to be placed very near to an object, without actually harming it.
? Where light fitting have to be very small and discrete
? For some areas, where there is a high probability of danger (fire, flooding, explosion or vandalism).

Fokas Fiber Tech Furniture is the first company in the world, having successfully implemented fiber optics into living room furniture (like sofas, armchairs, beds etc). Having been in the business of furniture-manufacturing for around 35 years, we have come up with a collection of luxurious fiber optic furniture, both eye-appealing and practical as well.
